When Dawn reached out to me about a photo session, I could tell right away that she was much more about the memories than she was about the perfect poses. She wanted everyone together creating special moments and memories together.

When I suggested we involve some paints and a pillow fort, she was all in! I provided everything we needed for the session, including the paint supplies, paper, easels, blankets, pillows, chairs…you name it, I brought it! The only thing Dawn and her family had to do was show up and be ready to roll with it.

And roll with it they did. I always love it when moms and dads use bribery during the photo session. For this family, it was jelly beans. “I’ll give you two jelly beans if you come and do one more photo with mommy!” Voilà! All smiles and willingness to cooperate. I have to also mention that these parents brought some laid back vibes that really set the tone for the kids and the session.

Were there a few tears? Yeah, for sure. Did it contribute to the overall “this is us” feeling we were going for? Absolutely, no one would have had it any other way! I’m so glad that we got not only the smiles, the messiness, the laughter, and the all-in-motion energy of a big family – we also got the little pouty faces and pensive looks that make each child unique.
